Púrpura Chess

This blog is basically a musical site. Here we talk about the music we like, using different angles. As dear and missed Jon Lord once said: “Music is the highest kind of Art that exists”. I think the same way too.

GUITAR GODS. Yngwie Malmsteen, Uli Jon Roth, Gary Hoey, Bumblefoot. North American tour.

Yngwie Malmsteen, Uli Jon Roth, Gary Hoey y Ron Thal performing in the same stage. More than a month ago the festival was announced but only a few days ago they confirmed the scheduled dates. North american people will be blessed with these incredible concerts.

I think that this concert concept would was born in Malmsteen’s kitchen. This man and Uli Roth have great respect and admiration to each other. Remember that Malmsteen plays a beautiful rendition of Uli’s tune “Sails of Charon” in his cover cd “Inspiration”. Uli and Yngwie played with the G3 line up, this was the original idea and concept by Joe Satriani, a reunion of three guitar virtuosos in the same concert.

Yngwie Malmsteen: "The Sails of Charon"

Scorpions (with Uli Roth): "The Sails of Charon" (Original version).

The first G3 took place in 1996 (EEUU) with Satriani, Steve Vai and Eric Johnson. True talent communion. The list of performers is from another galaxy, people like Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Michael Schenker, Uli Roth, John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert, Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Morse or Steve Lukather. Outstanding, a delicate and guilty soul pleasure…Even someone like Robert Fripp snuck into the performers to do something similar to music.

G3 (Satriani, Schenker, Roth): "Voodoo Chile"

G3 (Satriani, Vai, Malmsteen): "Rockin in a free world"

And now here’s Yngwie decided to do something else. Our lovely guitar hero has compiled a monster line up. Everything into the Malmsteen’s world got to be excessive. Not three but four guitarists: The legendary maestro Uli Jon Roth, the special Gary Hoey’s touch, and Ron Thal, better known for playing with Axel’s Guns n Roses. I feel jealously for the North American people who’ll watch this piece of emotion.

                                                     Gary Hoey: "Deja Blues"

I’m anxiously waiting to know anything about this tour, the performers, guest, the set lists, encores…To play with someone like Malmsteen  leaves no one feeling indifferent, that’s for sure. Getting along in the road day by day with these incredible musicians would be an interesting experience. The better Big Brother you could imagine.
